History of Gendai Pharmaceutical’s Biscal Product
Odor reducing ability
The following graph shows the change in odor during an odor validation test of Biscal.
Method of measuring the odor concentration
First, test dogs were selected from among dogs raised in a common household and not fed Biscal for at least a month.
The odor concentration of the fecal waste from the test dogs was measured before feeding the dogs Biscal, and this was set as day 0 of the test. Thereafter, the test dogs were fed a prescribed amount of Biscal for 28 days during their regular routine, the fecal waste was sampled and the odor concentration was measured on day 4, 7, 14, 28, and 32, and the average value was calculated.
The test dogs included small, medium-sized, and large dogs that live indoors and outdoors and vary in age. It was proven that feeding Biscal effectively reduced the fecal waste odor for test dogs raised normally under various conditions.
Human Olfactory Sensory Test
In the same manner as the above test, the body odor, urine odor, and fecal odor of selected test dogs were sensory evaluated and this was set as day 0 of the test. Thereafter, the test dogs were fed a prescribed amount of Biscal on a daily basis, and the body odor, urine odor, and fecal odor were sensory evaluated at each prescribed feeding period.
Points were given during the sensory evaluation using a six-level scale, with zero points for “no odor”, one point for “clearly reduced odor”, two points for “somewhat reduced odor”, three points for “no change”, four points for “somewhat stronger odor”, and five points for “clearly stronger odor”.
The table on the left shows the evaluation points and number of test dogs for each feeding period. The graph on the right is a graphical representation of the total number of evaluation points in the table on the left. It can be clearly seen that the total number of evaluation points for body odor, urine odor, and fecal odor decreased, with fecal odor showing a significantly decrease.

How Biscal Reduces Pet Waste Odors
The following graph is an example of how Biscal works in the intestines.
Fermented grain extract : This normalizes the intestinal bacteria to control the production of offensive odors and reduce waste odor.
Galacto-oligosaccharide : This is a bifidobacteria form of nutrition that acts as a probiotic in the large intestine, without metabolizing in the small intestine, to help maintain a normal intestinal environment.
Green tea extract : This is a type of green tea polyphenol that has antibacterial and odor-reducing effects. It controls the propagation of harmful bacteria and the production of offensive odors.
